I do not remember much about my college graduation. I remember the day before Smith College commencement seniors walk in the Alumnae Parade and Ivy Day Procession where all participants wear white and carry a red rose – an absolutely stunning visual. And I remember being inspired. Yes, Maya Angelou was our commencement speaker. I have no idea what she actually spoke about but her mere presence made me feel fearless and empowered. My future was limitless. Maya Angelou not only said so, she had shown us it was possible.
